Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter” – Martin Luther King Jr.

3 Lessons to Stay Away from Office Politics for Recent Graduates

So you’re new to this thing called the working world, and although you may know the general rules as stipulated in a company handbook, and you know that you should dress well and be on time, you might not know too much about office politics.

No matter how free of politics your office environment may seem, politics is present in every organization. It’s just human nature. When you first start working, it’s hard to get it all figured out, especially since your last experience was being in school — a place that’s pretty much politics-free. Click Here to Read Article …

Why Ergonomics Matter

As an office worker, you require spending long hours sitting in a chair at a desk. If you are big or tall you already know not all office chairs are created equally. If required to sit in a chair designed for someone half your weight or height this is going to result in health issues. It’s time to invest in an ergonomically designed chair for your particular size and height.

What is Ergonomics?

When a chair or any piece of furniture or equipment is ergonomically designed it means it was created with thought of the human body and how the body works. This type of chair reduces strain on the neck, back, shoulder, arms, legs and hips. The chair is able to adjust to your one of a kind physical structure so you don’t end up a stiff, sore, aching mess at day’s end.

Ergonomics is the science of creating a job to fit the worker and not forcing the worker to fit the job. This includes paying attention to environment factors that can negatively impact vision, health, comfort and hearing. It also takes into account the physical stresses placed on a person’s muscles, joints, tendons, nerves and bones when they are doing a specific job. Click Here to Read Article …

Why Sleeping at Work Can Help Your Career

Sleeping at work

Up until now, it’s been something you do in secret. Instead of heading off to lunch with everyone else, you’ll lock your office door, turn off the light and go sleeping at work. Or you’ll head out to your car and do your best to curl up and doze off without anyone noticing.

After all, you’re an adult, and we’re not supposed to need naps during the day. Except that more and more research is not only showing that we do, but that when we get those little power naps, we’re actually better, more productive employees. So stop hiding your napping tendencies and embrace them. Click Here to Read Article …

An Organized Office = Organized Brain and Business

Organized Office

A few years ago I landed a job working for the writer-directors of a movie. They were young, laid back, creative guys, and tended to be a bit messy and disorganized with their own office and work. As a consequence, I modeled myself after them and let my own workspace overflow with — well, let’s just call it inspiration.

Instead of filing things away and keeping my area clean and shiny, I had piles of artwork and paperwork stacked on the desk, under the desk, in boxes. At first it was because I was genuinely too busy to get to it, and I’d come into the position in the middle of production, with lots of work already there that I had nothing to do with. Later, I rationalized that I more or less knew where things were and that having everything out meant that it was easier to access. Yeah, not so much. Click Here to Read Article …
