Keeping Track of Your Tech Devices

Yesterday I realized that I had 5 portable devices to recharge and a drawer of tangled cables from which to get each of the 5 recharge cables (each device has its own).  My TV remote and cordless phone seemed to need new batteries and the hand held vacuum was out of charge, too.  It took me a good half hour to get everything all set and plugged in, by which time the cables were starting to tangle again.  It’s like I was having a close encounter with clutter of a third kind – a technological kind.

How does everyone handle their technology maintenance?  Do you have a routine?  Have you found a way to keep devices, cables and batteries organized without spending too much time on it?

I coil each cable in the smallest ziplock bag that it will fit into. Snack bags for usb cables and earphones. Sandwich bags for larger cables/devices. Velcro cable ties if it gets bigger than that.

That’s a great idea. I never thought about it 🙂

or else use as much wireless device in place or wired device , yes i know all device are not possible to be wireless but still i suggest you that !!!!

  3. I keep everything organized. I keep them where they should be. All separate form each other and each with it’s own place.

I keep my charger for my mobile in my room, connected to the socket, so that I can charge it without any kind of effort.

I don’t use many wireless devices, usually it’s only my macbook and my iPhone that I would need to charge. And I keep the chargers at the same places all the time, or at least I try to 🙂

But I’ve read somewhere that you can buy universal chargers, that can charge multiple devices at the same time (not sure if that includes products from Apple).

Mobile phone manufacturers including, LG, Motorola, Nokia, Samsung, and Sony Ericsson agreed last year in Barcelona to implement a standard charger (basically Micro-USB) for the new devices: http://tinyurl.com/cudnl9

Most devices, including MP3 players use something similar. It may take a while but the savings (and the help for the environment) could be enormous.

There is a solution called the Powermat (http://tinyurl.com/power-matt) that allows to charge your devices wirelessly. It adds some weight to your device, but you can just leave it on the table every night and charge it.
