Teambox: An Excellent Open Source Collaborative Project Management Solution

    While there are approximately 3 million project management apps (I’m guessing. I lost count around 102,463), TeamBox manages to stand out from the crowd by being both open source and focusing heavily on collaboration.

    While many hosted web-based project management apps focus on collaboration, few of them are open source. And while there are quite a few open source project management apps, few focus heavily on collaboration in a way that’s designed for virtual teams.

    Clutterpad: A Complete Project Management App

      Clutterpad is a full-featured project management app that considers itself  “a way of doing things-not just a tool.”

      Clutterpad operates on 5 principles:

      1. Sheer Beauty
      2. Ease and Simplicity
      3. Define Productivity
      4. Complete Mobility
      5. Security

      Sheer Beauty

      Clutterpad believes that to want to use something, you have to like the way it looks — and I completely agree. Clutterpad manages to achieve this with a sleek look where all features are easily accessible, without the interface looking cluttered.

      Ease and Simplicity

      Clutterpad thinks that “software should be as intuitive and easy to use as switching on a light.” While I still recommend that you always read all the features (and a product’s blog) — Clutterpad does do a pretty good job of having an intuitive interface.

      Productivity Redefined

      While I wouldn’t go as far as Clutterpad does in referring to using it as fun — it does offer a slew of features that can significantly help small teams stay organized, on track, and in touch all in one place.

      Mobility

      As a web-based app, Clutterpad is available from anywhere. (However, I didn’t see any mention of a mobile-optimized version.)

      Security

      Security is always concern — especially with cloud based apps — and Clutterpad lets it be know that they are super-serious about security.

        RockMelt is a snazzy browser built on Chromium that’s made for social sharing. It’s also potentially the least productive thing ever. Well, at first glance at least. Turns out that you can use RockMelt to help boost your productivity.

        Have a job where you have to keep up on social media? Maybe you’re a freelancer and social media is an important part of your marketing strategy? Well, here’s RockMelt to the rescue.

        RockMelt Easily Feeds and Follow Your Favorite Sites

        Let’s say you’re a blogger and need to keep on top of news in your industry. You can easily add feeds and monitor industry related blogs in real-time, straight from your browser without opening another window.

        Adding a feed involves 3 quick steps:

        1. Open a new tab and go to the site of the feed that you want to add.
        2. Open the “Add Feeds” Panel from the App Edge.
        3. Click on “Start” to add a feed.

        From there, the feed shows up with an icon on the right-hand panel. You can click on it whenever you see that the site has updated and get a preview similar to what you would see in a feed reader. There’s also a handy “Share Icon” right next to the preview.

          Having a clean, organized email inbox is the Holy Grail for the 21st century. Talk to just about anyone and you’re likely to hear:

          “Yeah, it’s a mess. Thank goodness Gmail has a great search function or I’d really have a problem.”

          Wouldn’t it be great if you could reach finally achieve that eternal quest?

          Thanks to ActiveInbox, you may finally have a tool that will help you achieve just that. ActiveInbox is a browser extension created by Andy Mitchell and Pete Lambert based on the premise that emails are just badly formatted tasks.

          ActiveInbox has two parts:

          1. Turning your emails into tasks and then grouping them into projects.
          2. Streamlining writing replies.

          ActiveInbox lets you choose whether an email is:

          • an action;
          • to be dealt with someday;
          • or something you’re waiting for a response from someone on.

          This has two main benefits. One is that it forces you to make a conscious decision about what to do with the email instead of just letting it sit there. The other is that it makes it easy to tell at a glance what needs to be done when — not to mention allowing you to keep track of when you need to prod someone about a follow-up email.

            Review: GTD Agenda – Versatile Productivity Software

            It seems like every day there’s a new task management app for a new productivity system. GTD Agenda breaks out of that mold by making a task management app that can be used for multiple productivity methods.

            In fact, my absolute favorite thing about GTD Agenda is that in addition to the standard tour and features page, they have pages dedicated to how you can use GTDAgenda for different productivity systems (GTD, The 7 Habits and Highly Effective People, and Zen to Done) and different activities (the gym, school, and software development).

            GTDAgenda allows you to easily break up your work across Goals, Projects, and Tasks. In addition, you add Contexts to your Tasks and label tasks as Next Options. There’s also checklists, schedules, and a calendar.

            Dashboard

            The Dashboard isn’t the prettiest thing I’ve ever seen, but it’s comprehensive. First and foremost, when you login, you see your Next Actions and have the option of grouping them by Priority, Project or Context. On the right-hand side, you have your Calendar. Then underneath your Calendar, you have a box of your Contexts. Underneath that, your Projects.

            This setup makes it super-easy for you to have an idea of what’s due when, what to do next, and enables you to quickly pick a task to work on.

            Teamly: A Project Management App that Focuses on Priorities

              If you’re anything like me, a good chunk of your day is spent staring at your to-do list, trying to figure out what is of highest priority and what to do next. After 20 minutes, you then end up just picking something random and hoping for the best.

              Enter Teamly– a project management tool based on priorities. Teamly allows you to set 5 priorities on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.

              Priorities

              Teamly takes priorities VERY seriously. In fact, the entire Dashboard revolves around them. When you log-in, you’re priorities are broken down by day, week, and month — and everything is color-coded. Red is new tasks, Yellow is started, and Green is completed. This allows you to easily know what the status of each priority is at a glance.

              You can easily go forward or back in time to see what you’ve accomplished and what’s coming up. You can also easily re-order your priorities and attach priorities to a specific date.

                Gantt charts are incredibly helpful scheduling tools, but the problem is making them. Programs like Microsoft Project tend to be clunky and ugly. Tom’s Planner aims to solve that problem by being colorful and easy to use.

                Ease of Use

                Tom’s Planner is super-easy to use. I know just about any app will tell you that it is “easy to use,” but Tom’s Planner means it. With Tom’s Planner, there are two main things you need to know in order to use it:

                • Drag and Drop Simplicity
                • “The Magic is in the Right Click”

                Once you get those two concepts down, you’re pretty much ready to go.
