Do You Volunteer for an Organization or Cause?

I read this recent post, Making Your Passion a Higher Priority, and it hit close to home.

I have recently been asked to sit on the board of the young professionals chapter of my local chamber of commerce. I was flattered and immediately agreed. Not only do I believe in networking opportunities, I believe in my local business community.

Once a month I attend an hour-long meeting and help plan monthly, quarterly, and yearly activities. As the editor of a regional manager I feel it’s important for me to be involved in the community. But I was worried about how to fit my volunteer commitment into my work and personal life. Click Here to Read Article …

Look Backward, Look Inward, Look Forward for Success

Be it Steve Jobs, Nelson Mandela or any of the other 6 billion or so people in the world, we all have one thing in common.

Everybody loses.

Beneath all the victory, power and flamboyance lie the painful scars of failures. Failures are the checks and balances put in place by God, nature, Darth Vader or whoever else you consider the omnipotent.

Passed on for a promotion for the umpteenth time? Denied all of the projects you bid on or applied for? Can’t get the cute blonde girl to go out with you? That’s sad. What exactly can you do about it? Click Here to Read Article …

How About a Mental Health Day?

I used to feel guilty taking a day off work to read a book or to play volleyball – but not so much after I had an anxiety attack in an especially stressful day at the office.  I ended up wondering what I was doing to myself…as I lay on my doctor’s examination table (to which I was becoming used to due to stress).

Soon after that, I changed departments and worked with a boss who allowed flexible schedules.  However, this and five sick days weren’t enough to keep other employees’ and my stress levels at bay so whenever I felt stress reaching a certain level I’d take a sick day – I called them “sick-of-my-job” days. Gmail’s Priority Inbox: An Email Review

It’s been one week since I started using Gmail’s Priority Inbox, so I though I’d summarize my experience with an email review. For those of you who haven’t heard about this handy little tool yet, the idea is that Gmail sets up “priority inbox” for important messages and sends the rest to your regular mailbox. Although I’ve been marking tons of emails as important (or not), Priority Inbox is still getting a sense of my email priorities and yes, still marking some of my daily emails as important despite my marking them as not important. Data Backup and Sync Strategies #4: Mobile Backup and Sync

Considering the fact that our cellphones have become our secondary computers (or primary for many) and hold important personal information, keeping a backup of the data is essential. Get-It-Done Guy’s 9 Steps to Work Less and Do More: Book Drops Tomorrow!

For those that like their productivity advice with a dash of humor on the side, Stever Robbins (best known as the Get-It-Done Guy) has been at it for years.  Whether you regularly visit his site or listen to his brief – but informative – podcasts, he delivers the goods with a light touch.  His approach is a great way to attract an audience to what some consider to be a “dry” topic…and Robbins does it very well.

We should have a review of the book up soon. In the meantime, if you want to head on over to the book’s social media release, it offers audio samples of the book, an interview with the author and much more. All these “extras” are there to help whet your appetite before the book drops tomorrow.

How to Smash Your To Do List When You’re Your Own Boss

An insidious curse haunts all business owners and it doesn’t matter what business model they use or how large or small their company might be. The curse is freedom.

You’d think freedom was a blessing, and it is. It’s the ultimate goal of the successful entrepreneur. They want to enjoy freedom from someone else’s schedule, from corporate bureaucracy and from some lame manager’s to do list. They have the freedom to do work that counts, to blow off on a Tuesday afternoon to spend time with family, or to play by day and work at night. Click Here to Read Article …
