6 Simple Changes to Improve the Workplace

You can break down work environments into two broad groups (with a ton of shades of gray in between).  The one that employees dread waking up for every morning and can’t wait to get out the door at night and the other where steps are consistently being taken to improve the workplace so that the employees look forward to the day, the people they share it with and the work they are doing. The latter of the two are companies and businesses that are successful, productive and providing the world with great things.

The more comfortable people are at the workplace the easier the flow of ideas become, the willingness to help and participate improves and as a result a better product is produced.  Bottom line, people should WANT to come to work.  I mean it’s something we typically have to do around 40 hours a week for around 40 years of our lives. How to Balance it All: A Guide for Working Moms

How to Balance it All: A Guide for Working Moms

Have you come across the burden of balancing it all as a working mom? I am referring to the burden and guilt trip we give ourselves each day over our attempt and quite often failure to balance all aspects (working mom, caretaker, professional, student, friend etc.) of our lives.  I call it the Balance Burden and, truly, I spent my first year- and- a -half of motherhood often riddled with guilt because I couldn’t seem to juggle it all.

It wasn’t until the birth of my second daughter (18 months after my first) that I finally threw my hands up and admitted defeat.  With the slow realization and acceptance that balance was unattainable came a sudden relief, and the mommy baggage was quickly lifted off my five- foot, two- inch frame.  Click Here to Read Article …

10 Reasons Why Project Managers Should Write a Blog

10 Reasons Why Project Managers Should Write a Blog

It was my own manager who first suggested to me to write a blog. Company cutbacks had added project management duties to my position. By following this advice, I soon discovered why daily blogging is such a good idea.

Having a blog has helped me in project management immensely. Blogging helped me keep track of all aspects of the project, allowing me to take on more projects. It was not unheard of to have a dozen or more projects on my desk at the same time. I wrote a blog entry for every one of them every workday, and answered the associated comments. Being Busy is Not Productive

One of the most misleading but commonly held beliefs is being “busy” means that you’re being productive and accomplishing a lot. The problem is that the busy work for most people isn’t focused on the things that need to be done. It’s just that, busy work.

Some of us get into a mindset that these things have to be done and there is no other way. Therefore, we get consumed by the same tasks over and over and because they are endless, the day is over and it’s time to check-out. The next day begins a new cycle of business yet non-productivity. No Sweat! 4 Tips to Improve Confidence During a Video Interview

Your voice is shaky, your palms are sweaty, and you are covered in flop sweat. If this is you when preparing for an important video interview for a job, then spoiler alert: You won’t be getting the job! Employers look for job candidates that seem put together, relaxed, and above all, confident. If you can’t even handle the pressures of a job interview, they figure you won’t be able to handle the pressures of the actual job.

In fact, it’s turning out confidence might be even more important than originally thought for achieving interview success. According to a recent study from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln to be published in the Journal of Applied Social Psychology, narcissists might have a leg up on the interviewing competition. The study results show that narcissists score much higher than non-narcissists in simulated job interviews. Click Here to Read Article …

How to Define Your Dream Job

How to Define Your Dream Job

In January 2010, Lane Kiffin sent shockwaves through college football by announcing he was leaving the University of Tennessee after only one season. Just 14 months earlier, Kiffin had accepted the head-coaching job at Tennessee, one of the most well-respected college football programs in the country.

I am not a fan of Kiffin’s, and as an outsider looking in, I took his willingness to initiate fights with other programs as a sign that he was more interested in his quest for personal fame than in his role as a coach and mentor to his student athletes. Click Here to Read Article …

Why Employers Need to Give the Online Graduate a Chance

Why Employers Need to Give the Online Graduate a Chance

Growing up, I’d always dreamt of going to UCLA. It wasn’t that I was from California nor had some special relation to that school in any way, shape or form. My parents didn’t even go to college. But at 6-years-old, I knew college was in my future and that was the school my heart was set on.

I never did attend UCLA. In fact, I didn’t attend any brick-or-mortar institution, period. Surprisingly, my choices in life took me on a different path and I ended up doing something I never fathomed as a little girl: I enrolled in an online college to earn my bachelor’s degree and became an online graduate.
